Shinn WEST
About This Spot
Stepping into Shinn WEST feels like discovering a quiet, refined corner tucked away in the buzz of Hell’s Kitchen. The modest exterior hints at an intimate sushi experience where every detail is measured and deliberate. Inside, the atmosphere hums with a steady, focused energy—the kind that invites you to slow down and appreciate the rhythm of each bite, the soft clink of dishes, and the careful choreography behind the sushi counter.
This is a spot where the pace is unhurried but attentive, perfect for those who value a thoughtfulness in dining. The seating encourages close connection—not only to the fresh fish but to the skillful hands preparing it. Here, the evening unfolds course by course, each piece a quiet conversation of texture and flavor. The menu feels like an invitation to savor moments: silky fatty tuna, bursts of caviar brightness, and the comforting warmth of unagi bowls all find their place alongside more traditional cuts, balanced skillfully with selections of sake that complement rather than overshadow.
Though tucked somewhat off the beaten path—finding it might take a bit of extra attention—the effort feels part of the experience. It’s a place shaped by a young chef’s steady hand and respect for the craft, proving that fresh perspectives can enrich even long-standing sushi traditions. The energy here is earnest rather than flashy, prioritizing a balanced harmony over showmanship.
Shinn WEST draws those who appreciate a meal that feels both personal and approachable—whether it’s a spontaneous stop or a carefully planned discovery. It’s a restaurant where the music comes not from the speakers but the natural rhythm of shared human moments, and the best bites linger quietly, inviting reflection long after the meal ends.

Amazing omakase experience! Every course was fresh, beautifully crafted, and full of flavor. The quality far exceeded the price, making it one of the best-value sushi experiences we’ve had. A perfect balance of taste, presentation, and atmosphere.

Shinn WEST delivers a beautifully curated omakase experience right in Hell’s Kitchen. It’s a little hard to find because Google Maps has the location on the opposite side of the street! Led by Chef Mike one of the youngest sushi chefs in NYC—this concept is proof that age has nothing to do with talent. With nearly a decade in the East Coast sushi scene, his precision, creativity, and respect for the fish shine through every course. The 13-course omakase ($69 per person) is an incredible value for the quality and execution. Highlights included the buttery chu-toro, indulgent o-toro topped with caviar, sweet botan ebi with uni, and perfectly balanced zuke akami. The space is intimate and refined, making the experience feel elevated yet approachable. If you’re looking for high-quality omakase without the intimidating price tag, Shinn WEST is absolutely worth a visit.

This spot is kind of hard to find because it’s on the opposite side of what Google maps says… the fish quality is quite good for the price. I did feel like it was a bit rushed and didn’t have time to enjoy each piece. I think it makes sense as they have parties coming in every hour. I would appreciate a longer dining experience. The standouts were the fatty tuna and salmon with truffle. Also enjoyed the shrimp with uni and scallop. I ordered the Wagyu foie gras add on which was torched and quite flavourful

Luckily, we managed to find an open reservation for 2 at Shinn West for the next day, so we jumped on the opportunity. They were still doing the BOGO omakase deal so for about $40 a person we were able to have a nice little omakase meal. I think every dish was good, but not exceptional. I think the quality matched the price range, however if it were more expensive it would not be worth the price. Regardless of the food quality, service here was top notch. Hostesses constantly refilling drinks and water while the sushi chefs in front were constantly monitoring the pace of their diners. Due to being only 1 hour, the meal did feel a little short, but everything was great and at the end of the courses we were allowed to chill. Joey, our chef, even hooked it up with extra rice, which was one of my favorite parts of the meal. He said that they throw out any excess rice between seatings so he offered us a whole baseball sized ball of rice at the end of the meal. For the BOGO price I would definitely recommend this place for quality and variety. However, I would be a little more hesitant if it was for the whole price.

We came here for their limited BOGO deal as a result of Shinn EAST being under construction. For $75/2 people’s worth of omakase I’d say it was a pretty good deal. The fish quality was definitely above supermarket quality but still not what I would consider “high quality”. Nevertheless, the sushi was still delicious. While I was satisfied with the bites, I still left the restaurant hungry. I don’t think I could recommend anyone come here if they prioritize value for your money.

The omakase was great! The otoro was amazing, and I was a huge fan of the eel. Not pictured, the highball cocktail they had (seasonal?) was phenomenal, and matcha IPA was unique too

Shinn West — Endless Salmon AYCE Fantastic experience. The salmon was served in several styles and every dish was fresh and flavorful. The service was attentive without being pushy. Relaxed atmosphere and generous portions made it feel like a great value. Would definitely come back if they host it again. Highly recommend.
